Opening 3 December 2010 at 7 pm
Exhibition from 4 December 2010 to 23 January 2011
In the course of his project "Amnesialand", which is shown in the studio of the Heidelberger Kunstverein, Stefanos Tsivopoulos turned the collective memory of a region into a cinematic essay. Using pictures from a photographic archive in Cartagena and his own photographs of the deserted landscapes of former mines in the region of the city Murcia in south Spain, he investigates the political and social history of an European borderland.
Today nevertheless it is rather the region's proximity to the African continent that plays an important role than the industrial history of the 20th century. It is this history, Tsivopoulos wants to rediscover, yet the viewer does not loose the impression that his main purpose was to create a highly compressed collage of various fragments which have the purpose to show the power of images to create and erase history.
The exhibition will be presented in the studio.
