Opening 26 November 2010 at 7 pm
Exhibition from 27 November 2010 to 23 January 2011
At the end of the year, the Heidelberger Kunstverein will stage the first German one-person show by Danish performance, video and object artist Lilibeth Cuenca Rasmussen . Cuenca Rasmussen has been using biographical elements unsentimentally in her art for many years and these will form the basis of the new work.
The title of the current exhibition series of the Heidelberger Kunstverein, "Personal Stories", is actually a perfect fit for Cuenca Rasmussen. In the early pieces, shown in the exhibition, she sets the focus on herself and her family in two video pieces, one showing a dancing performance she intensively practised with her family, the other one focusing on the family itself and the interpersonal relationships. In the later pieces she has exchanged real people with artificial characters to personify biographical details of her own life and reveals her own debate about ethnicity, gender roles and subtle oppression.
The exhibition will be presented in the hall.
